CANONIZATION CAUSES
Bishop del Portillo (Spain, 1914 – Italy, 1994) succeeded Saint Josemaría Escrivá as the head of Opus Dei.
He served the Church with great generosity through his many years as a priest, including work on various commissions at the Second Vatican Council. John Paul II ordained as a bishop in 1991.

Don Alvaro's life
In 1975, Alvaro del Portillo succeeded St. Josemaría Escrivá as head of Opus Dei, carrying on his work with fidelity and dedication. 
Favors received
Seeking the intercession of men and women who have died with a reputation for holiness is a common practice in the Catholic Church. Examples of favors received through the intercession of don Alvaro follow. 
News of the Cause
The Congregation for the Causes of the Saints has opened two tribunals to study the life of don Álvaro del Portillo: one in the Diocese of Rome and the other in the Prelature of Opus Dei.
