Bishop Jose H. Gomez named Archbishop of San Antonio

On December 29, 2004, the Archdiocese of Denver announced that Pope John Paul II has appointed Bishop Jose Gomez as Archbishop of San Antonio.

Opus Dei -
Pope John Paul II has appointed Most Reverend Jose H. Gomez, S.T.D., presently Auxiliary Bishop of Denver, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Texas.

Archbishop-elect Gomez will succeed Archbishop Patrick F. Flores, who has served as Archbishop of San Antonio since 1979.

Prior to his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop of Denver in 2001, Archbishop-elect Gomez had been the Vicar of the Delegation of Texas for the Prelature of Opus Dei.
